Sambla Group joins Tekniksprånget – opens its tech organisation to young talent

Sambla Group is joining Tekniksprånget, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA’s, national internship programme that gives young people the opportunity to experience what it is like to work as an engineer. This autumn, Sambla Group is welcoming three interns to its Product & Tech organisation, where they will work closely with teams across areas such as product development, data science, AI and IT.

Sambla Group is a Nordic fintech company where technology, data and digital product development are central to building services that help people make more informed decisions about their personal finances. Through Tekniksprånget, the company wants to give young people a tangible insight into how technology is used to solve real problems, while also helping more people discover the possibilities of a future in tech.

“We want to give young people the opportunity to experience what it is like to work with technology and product development in a tech company. At Sambla Group, they get to see how AI, data and technology can be turned into services that people use in their everyday lives. Hopefully, we can spark curiosity and inspire more young people to choose a technical education and career,” says Kjersti Thorneus, CPTO at Sambla Group.

Over the course of four months, the interns will shadow experienced colleagues, take part in the teams’ day-to-day work and work on practical assignments. The aim is to give them a broad understanding of different roles within tech and how product, data and technology come together from idea to finished digital service.

“It is especially encouraging when companies like Sambla choose to invest in the future of young people. Through Tekniksprånget, young people get the chance to test their wings in working life, while Sambla gains access to new perspectives, energy and future talent,” says Helena Lind, Programme Director at Tekniksprånget.

Tekniksprånget has been run by IVA since 2012 and aims to inspire more young people to choose higher technical education. The programme is open to young people aged 18 to 21 and gives participants the opportunity to experience the engineering profession through four months of paid internship with employers across Sweden.

Since its launch, more than 8,000 young people have completed Tekniksprånget with over 600 employers in 200 locations. A follow-up based on data from Statistics Sweden shows that 85 percent of former participants begin higher education within four semesters after the internship. 75 percent choose technical studies and 70 percent have started an engineering programme.

Tekniksprånget’s own surveys also show that 59 percent of those who apply to the programme are initially uncertain about pursuing higher technical studies. After the internship, 80 percent say that their perception of the engineering profession and relevant studies has changed for the better.

“That is exactly why initiatives like Tekniksprånget matter. It is difficult to know whether tech is the right path before you have had the chance to see what the work actually involves. At the same time, we get to meet young people with new perspectives and ideas. That is valuable for us as a company and for Sweden’s long-term supply of technical talent,” says Kjersti Thorneus.

For Sambla Group, participation in Tekniksprånget is part of the company’s long-term work with talent and innovation. By opening up the organisation to young people at the beginning of their career choices, the company wants to help broaden the understanding of the opportunities available within tech and inspire more people to pursue the field.
